An ocean of people, hope, and action
On May 10, 2025, Trondheim came together to make a difference.
Over 160 volunteers participated in Ocean Action 2025, where divers, beach cleaners, students, families, and local businesses cleaned up the fjord, river, and shoreline from Solsiden to Byneset.
In total, 20 cubic meters of waste were collected: plastic, ropes, metal, and objects that had been hidden underwater for years.
The action was organized in collaboration with NTNUI Diving Group, Trondheim Freediving Club, Draugen FMK, NTNU Ocean Club, ESN Trondheim, the Environmental Protection Association, the Ukrainian Association in Trondheim, the Norwegian Sea Rescue Society, and Vortex NTNU.
We received support from the City of Trondheim, while Thorleifs Bussreiser provided an electric bus for transport, Søppelsekk.no supplied equipment and waste collection, Bunnpris handed out fruit, and Bror Solsiden served burgers to all the volunteers.
The atmosphere was amazing.
People who had never met before stood side by side for a common cause.
160 volunteers, 20 cubic meters of trash, and an ocean that can breathe a little easier.
Towards 2026 – a community in motion
In 2026, we continue our work for a cleaner fjord and a stronger community.
We’re planning more cleanup sites, more collaboration, and even greater participation.
We need you to join us on action day – whether you’re diving, cleaning, or helping on land with registration, food, or logistics.
We also need you who will spread the word, inspire others, and spark engagement in schools, workplaces, and local communities.
Every hand counts.
Together, we lift the ocean – one act at a time.

Hope in the Ocean – the passion behind the action.
Hope in the Ocean is Ocean Action’s creative project that unites documentation, music, and storytelling.
Through art and real observations from the fjord, we aim to show how hope, togetherness, and the rhythm of nature can inspire action.
We’re now looking for voices for the podcast “Hope in the Ocean”, where we’ll share the stories behind the action, amplify the voices of volunteers, and give the ocean a voice of its own.
We also aim to develop the project into a musical about life in the sea – but we’re open to new ideas and collaborations.
Hope in the Ocean is about more than trash and plastic.
It’s about community, creativity, and a love for all life in the water.
Together, we’re creating a movement that makes the world a little better.
